Asian-style Burger (makes 4 burgers)

FOR THE BURGERS:

  • 400 grams Chicken or Beef Mince
  • ½ cup of finely diced spring onions and coriander
  • 2 tablespoons Plum Sauce
  • 3 tablespoons Indomex Ketjap Manis (Sweet Soy Sauce)
  • 1 teaspoon Indomex Sesame Oil
  • 2 teaspoons grated fresh garlic
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon Indomex Chinese 5-spice
  • ¼ teaspoon white pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • A little oil for frying

SRIRACHA MAYO:

  • ½ cup Mayonnaise (Kewpie is great but pricey – any whole mayo will work)
  • 5 teaspoons Sriracha (or extra if you like a kick of spice)
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon Mustard (optional but adds a great flavour depth)

Swop out the Dijon Mustard for a tablespoon of Indomex Sweet Chilli Sauce for a spicy “Bang Bang” Burger Relish

RED ONION PICKLE

  • 2 red onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt

Replace the Red Onion Pickle with sweet and tangy Indomex Atjar Tjampoer

FOR SERVING:

  • 4 Burger Buns, toasted (Sesame Seed bus are great for this burger)
  • Asian Slaw Mix (green cabbage, red cabbage, shredded carrots, coriander & mint leaves)

PREPARATION:

For the Burger Patties:

  • Combine all burger patty ingredients in a large bowl and mix by hand ensuring spices well distributed
  • Form 4 burger patties and refrigerate for a minimum of 30 minutes
  • Grill or Fry burger patties ensuring caramelization on searing and cooked through

For the Sriracha Mayo:

  • Combine all ingredients and check for seasoning

For the Red Onion Pickle:

  • Bring water, vinegar, sugar and salt to the boil whilst stirring to ensure sugar doesn’t burn
  • Remove from heat, add sliced onions, cover and allow to stand for 30 minutes – refrigerate once cooled (best to refrigerate overnight to allow flavours to develop so make ahead if you can)

Build your Burger:

Toast Burger Buns on grill or in a grill pan / sandwich press

Place a little of the Asian Slaw mix onto your toasted Burger Bun base

Top with Asian Burger Patty

Drizzle with Sriracha Mayo

Top with Red onion Pickle & Burger Bun lid

Enjoy!!!!

Great served with Asian Slaw Salad, Indomex Atjar Tjampoer (Sweet & Sour Vegetable Pickle) and hand-cut potato wedges tossed in lemon zest infused salt
