Indomex Original Recipe – Indonesian Street Food

There’s something magical about wandering through the streets of Indonesia — the air thick with the scent of sizzling satay, bubbling peanut sauce, smoky charcoal, and sweet coconut. Street food isn’t just a quick meal here; it’s a vibrant expression of culture, tradition, and pure flavour joy.

From the bustling alleys of Jakarta to the beachside stalls of Bali, every corner has a story to tell — one skewer, one spoon, one bite at a time. 🍢🍜

Here are a few favourites you’ll find on Indonesia’s flavour-packed streets:

🌶 Satay (Sate) – Chargrilled skewers of chicken, beef, or lamb served with a rich, nutty peanut sauce.
🥚 Martabak – Crispy, stuffed pancake that can be sweet (filled with chocolate & condensed milk) or savoury (stuffed with eggs, meat, and spring onions).
🍜 Bakso – Comforting meatball soup served with noodles and spicy sambal.
🍛 Nasi Goreng – Indonesia’s iconic fried rice, smoky and spicy with a fried egg on top.
🍌 Pisang Goreng – Golden, crunchy fried banana — the ultimate sweet street snack.

And because no Indonesian street food story is complete without something spicy and saucy, here’s a simple recipe to try at home

Indonesian Chicken Sate (Satay) with Indomex Peanut Sauce

You’ll need:
🍗 500g chicken breast or deboned thighs, cut into cubes
🍋 3 tbsp Indomex Ketjap Manis (sweet soy sauce)
🥥 60 ml Coconut Milk
🧄 2 garlic cloves, minced
🍯 Wooden Skewers (soaked in water)

For the Indomex Peanut Sauce:
🥜 ½ cup Indomex Peanut Sate Sauce
🥥 ½ cup Coconut Milk
🌶 1 tsp Indomex Sambal Oelek

To Serve
🍋 Splash of lime juice, sliced Cucumber and a sprinkle of Indomex Seroendeng for crunch

How to make it:

  1. Marinate chicken Ketjap Manis, Coconut Milk & Garlic for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Thread onto skewers and grill until golden and slightly charred (great on the braai).
  3. In a small pan, mix all sauce ingredients and simmer until creamy and smooth.
  4. Serve skewers hot with the Indomex Peanut Sate Sauce and a squeeze of lime.
  5. Add more flavour and crunch with a sprinkle of Indomex Seroendeng
  6. Traditionally served with Spicy Nasi Goreng and a cooling Cucumber Salad

From smoky satay to sweet martabak, Indonesian street food is all about bold flavours, vibrant colours, and a whole lot of heart. Whether you’re exploring a night market or cooking at home, there’s always room for a little taste of Indonesia.
